Your pages supply the words

The site summary comes from the short summary your homepage gives search engines (its meta description). Each link uses that page’s title and summary. Sections follow the folders in your page addresses, so you may want to rename them.

Check the descriptions against your current offer. Add any important pages that the draft missed.

Check the pages it includes

The tool reads your sitemap, the list of pages your site gives search engines. With no sitemap, it follows the links on your homepage. It reads up to 40 pages on the same website address, within about twenty seconds, and skips PDFs and other downloads.

For Google’s AI search features, focus on useful, accessible pages. Google’s guidance explains that extra AI files are not required.

Questions about llms.txt

What is an llms.txt file?

It is a plain text guide to your website, written in Markdown (simple text formatting). It gives a one-line summary and links to your most useful pages. This tool drafts it from the titles and summaries on your public pages.

Which AI tools read it?

Tools that explicitly support llms.txt, or agents configured to fetch it, can use the guide to find your pages. Check the documentation for the tool you want to serve. Publishing the file makes it available; each tool decides whether to retrieve and use it.

Where should I publish it?

Place it at your website’s root address, such as https://yourcompany.com/llms.txt. Open that address to check the published text and follow the links to confirm they work. Update the guide when important pages or service details change.
